Here you will find more information on respective treatments which may help answer common questions:
Botox®, cosmetic fillers and other injectables are becoming increasingly popular for treating wrinkles and expression lines. These treatments have also been labelled as "preventative" injections.
Collagen / Dermal Fillers:
Fillers are to help static, established skin creases. Rather than just smoothing or tightening skin, an injectable filler aims to change the facial profile and contour to a more youthful one. The filler is injected under the skin to fill deep folds, such as nasolabial folds, which run from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth. They are also used to create fuller lips and to fill / pad out hollow cheeks and eyes.
We, at Onyx Medica use the latest collagen which contains hyaluronic acid (such as Juvederm®).
We use different sizes of collagen molecules for different types of creases and folds.
How long do fillers last?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can last 9 to 12 months. This means that after this time, the skin will return to its pre-treatment appearance. One must be mindful that top-up treatment may be needed before this time has elapsed to ensure a good cosmetic appearance.
How much do fillers cost?
We, at Onyx Medica, do not charge for the area(s) treated, but rather charge per syringe / vial of collagen. Together with the client, we establish which areas to treat and price accordingly depending on the number of vials required to treat the agreed areas.
Do fillers hurt?
The filler injections do hurt, and the pain will vary depending on the patient and the number of areas being injected. There may be associated bruising and redness. We, at Onyx Medica, provide topical local anaesthetic cream to help numb the treatment area. This works best for the lips but also for naso-labial folds and marionette lines.
What are the risks associated with fillers?
The most common side effects of fillers are pain, bleeding / bruising, infection and allergic reaction. There can be significant complications if the operator accidentally injects filler into blood vessels, the most common being potential skin loss (necrosis). This will be discussed during your structured consultation.
We, at Onyx Medica, give clear post-treatment plans and advice to ensure we minimise the possibility of any complications.
We will go through the consent process with you, in a calm, professional environment, as well as answer any further questions you may have.
All clients who are to be treated should read the treatments / more information page on this website. This will provide basic information on what to expect and which areas we can treat.
All clients will have their consent forms explained in detail, in clinic or at their event.
It is imperative that no alcohol is consumed before the treatment. We advise no alcohol 24 hours prior to the event. This prevents the face from flushing (due to vasodilation) and may result in additional swelling.
Prior to treatment, all clients will be fully informed of what is to be expected and given clear post-procedure advice.
If you want to gift a Botox® or a dermal filler treatment to a friend or relative who has not had it before, it is very important that they are given the chance to consider whether they want it done. This will avoid any coersion as they may be put in a position of being unable to refuse a gift, and also will avoid a wasted gift.
It is important that there is no pressure to have the treatment, either from friends or from Onyx Medica.
All treatments are approximately 20 mins after the consent has been discussed. There will be a pre-treatment period of 30-45 minutes to ensure the topical anaethetic has taken effect to the treatment areas.
We offer everyone a complimentary 2 week review to ensure satisfactory results at one of our clinics or private rooms.
